Dr Nic Wilson, the head of clinical medicine for the University of Adelaide medical school, said today that he is "delighted to hear of the successful results achieved" by the new drug, Viagra.
"This is a huge opportunity to improve the quality of life for some of our students."
The drug, which is named after the medical name of the drug's manufacturer, is developed by a pharmaceutical company and approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) as the first prescription to treat erectile dysfunction in adults.
Viagra is the first drug to be approved for use in adults for treating erectile dysfunction, said Wilson.
The drug is currently in the public sector and is offered as a 50-milligram tablet to treat erectile dysfunction in adults and as an 80-milligram tablet for treatment of the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia in the absence of prostate cancer.
The drug, which is also indicated as an erectile dysfunction treatment in patients with a history of impotence, is indicated for the treatment of men who are at risk of developing heart problems.

The drug is currently under the supervision of Dr David Nolley, the medical director of the University of Adelaide Medical School.
